This helmet is quite unique. It is made similar to the US Army's, 1881 Model spike helmet, however it has been modified
by the manufacturer for use by a Fraternal Organization (unknown as of now). The Army helmet has both a front and rear visor,
while this example only has a rear visor. This helmet does have the organization's custom made frontal crest. The spike (which
is loose) is of standard Army issue. Fraternal helmets are often over looked by the advanced headgear collector which is a great
mistake. These modified helmets are all very unique and educational. They can tell the experienced headgear collector much about
dommestically modified helmets not easilly found elsewhere. This is the exact case we have here, as a no-frontal-visor 1881
Model helmet is a rare piece indeed. Add to this factor the very low selling price for these Fraternal Organization helmets, and these
"lost children" of the helmet collecting world are a cheap and fascinating addition to any collection.
*Condition is very dirty, has loose spike and deterriorated silk band. Interior is excellent.
