This uniform is of the June 2nd, 1964 period. It's dating is derrived by the date that this General received his 2nd star.
This uniform is a US Marine Corps., Khaki Service Coat (or Uniform). This uniform belonged to a Engineer, Major General
(i.e.: a 2 Star General), named: "George E. Tomlinson". The inside of this uniform is 1/2 lined and in MINT condition. Sewn
on the face of the inside pocket is a beautiful tailor's tag with this inscription: "Lowe Tailors, 56 Maryland Ave., Annapolis,
MD". Sewn above this inner pocket were all 3 of Tomlinson's custom embroidered initials tags of bevo-like weave.
The 1st and 3rd initials tags are missing, however his middle tag is still present and has the letter "T". The outside of this
uniform rates a low-MINT condition as it is perfect except for 2 microscopic tiny stains that are near invisible (one on the lower
front pocket and one on the rear left shoulder).
Each upper collar lapel has non-matching, hollowback, screw back, eagle globe and anchor insignia. Both correctly
face inward (these E.G.A.'s almost never match!). All buttons appear matching, back marked, and are of the removable
type. The removable belt has its removable buckle and slider. Each shoulder has the double star insignia of a Major
General. They are mismatched but are still identical nevertheless! Each set is of the soldered bar varriety and each set
has a different hallmark. They are identical in every respect and yet made by 2 different companies (WOW - how rare
is that!). And these stars have the most SPECTACULAR! age toning we have ever seen. They appear to be of age toned
sterling silver, but they are not hallmarked as "sterling" so it is anybody's guess if they are real silver or not. But they are
truely beautiful (they have to be seen to be appreciated). There is a magnificent custom made, 10 ribbon bar. Each ribbon
is matching and has been hand sewn on to a custom khaki color cloth backing that exactly matches the uniform cloth.
The award ribbons are for: the "Legion of Merit Medal", the "Bronze Star Medal" with a "V" device for valor and with a bronze
oak leaf cluster, the "American Defense Service Medal", the "American Campaign Medal", the "Asiatic/Pacific Campaign
Medal" with 3 bronze stars, the "WWII Victory Medal", the "National Defense Service Medal", the "Army of Occupation Medal",
the "Philippine Liberation Medal" with 1 bronze star, and the "Philippine Independence Ribbon". The uniform includes a
near MINT condition pair of trousers. They have a U.S.M.C. bevo-like cloth tag sewn inside, and there is also a sewn in
name tag (unfortunately it was never filled out). There is also a beautiful trouser belt and buckle. The buckle is shiney
and hallmarked. This uniform also includes a khaki color tie.
