This uniform is dated July 30th, 1957. It is a US Army, "Coat, Man's, Wind Resistant, Santeen, Water Repellant Treated,
Olive Green, Shade No. 107, Slide Fastener Clouser". If all that mumbo-jumbo is not enough for you, this uniform is also
taged inside "Coat, Man's, Field, Olive Green 107, M-1951." It seems that in the Army there is never a shortage of words!
This uniform belonged to Airborne, Brigadier General, "Henry J. Muller, Jr. Muller served in Vietnam as the Assistant Division
Commander of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles". He participated directly in providing support, primarily helicopter
and firepower, to the commanders of the 1st ARVN (i.e.: "Army Republic of Vietnam") Division. Later her became the Deputy
Senior Advisor to the Vietnamese I Corp. commander, Lieutenant General Lam. In this capacity he co-ordinated support to the I
Corps. from the 101st Airborne Division and other US units. He attributed the remarkable progress of the Vietnamese Divisions
in the I Corps. area primarily to the close association between the Vietnamese units and the US tactical elements in their
common operational area.
Sewn on each shoulder epaulette are subdued cloth Brigadier General's star insignia. Fading in that area shows where he
once had his Bird Colonel's insignia sewn on. Sewn on his upper left sleeve is the subdued cloth insignia of service in the 4th
US Army. Behind that patch is fading evidence of there once being a 101st Airborne Division patch with it's extra "Airborne"
arc sewn on. Sewn on his left brest is a standard subdued cloth "US Army" tape which shows correct age fading and shrinkage on the
inside of the coat. He has a subdued Senior Parachutist patch sewn above the former patch which also shows proper
fading and shrinkage on the inside. This patch is on top of a faded spot where another parachutist patch once was.
Sewn near the top of his right sleeve are the subdued, combination, 101st Airborne Division, and Airborne arc patches which also
show the correct fading and shrinkage on the inside of the coat.
Sewn on his upper right breast is his subdued cloth name tape of "Muller". It shows no evidence of later placement or re-attachment
which attests to this uniform's authenticity. The tape also shows the correct fading and shrinkage on the inside of the coat.
Condition of this coat is very good. It shows much wear and washing - so much so that most internal snaps and high points
leave a whiter color witness mark on the jacket's outside (as is also correct for original worn pieces). The lower hem is showing
some fraying and there is one very tiny hole in lower left sleeve (not noticable). Otherwise the jacket looks very nice looking
with that jaunty combat appearance. The inside is also in excellent condition.
