1943 to the 1948 period, US, Cadet Nurse Corps., Woman's, 2-piece
Uniform, belonging to "Miss Currey"
Uniform Details
This uniform dates from 1943 to 1948 when the C.N.C. was disbanded. The Cadet Nurse Corps. was part of the Public
Health Service. There was a great shortage of nurses in WWII, thus high school and college nursing students were recruited
to make up for the shortage. The wearing of these (or any) uniforms was optional, thus making them rare to find today.
This uniform is of the light weight summer, striped pattern style. It is a 2-piece set. It still has it's original, silver metal collar pins
present (they are always missing and they are also very rare and expensive if you ever need them). The "Cadet Nurse" cloth patch
is sewn on the upper left shoulder. Both passants (i.e.: epaulettes) are missing, but the 4 buttons for both and 1 silver metal
malteese cross pin are included (again, very rare and expensive). This uniform and it's matching skirt are both named inside
to a "Currey". The uniform also includes it's matching skirt. Both pieces run in a size small (as expected for such young
girls who wore them). Condition of the jacket is very Good, and the condition of the skirt is Good (has 2 small stains). Both
pieces need ironing.
Comments from the Curator:
Cadet Nurse Corps. uniforms are very rare today. Most uniform collectors do not even know who they were, no less
know what they look like. Forget the fact that they do not know how rare they are. Ask any uniform collector what the C.N.C. was
and watch the blank look on his face! In over 40 years of collecting uniforms-this curator had only seen about a 1/2 dozen
of these uniforms offered for sale, thats how rare they are. Also take note that the C.N.C. organization was almost
exclusively for teenage to the 21/22 age bracket of young girls, unlike any other more common organizations. This is a great
uniform at a fair price.
