World War II period, US Army, Khaki Service Uniform, belonging to an Engineer, Captain serving in the Army Amphibious
Command
This khaki summer uniform is of the WWII period. They were worn all the way up to the Vietnam conflict period. This
US Army service uniform belonged to a Captain serving in the Engineers as is evidenced by the 2 metal rank pins on each
epaulette and by the Engineer branch insignia pinned on each lower collar lapel. Sewn on the left shoulder is a cloth patch for
service in the Army Amphibious Command whos amphibious AMTRAC and DD ("Amphibious Tractor" and "Duplex Drive" Tanks)
Tank operations it directed. Sewn on the left breast is a oval cloth patch for service in the Engineer Special Brigade. This
Captain's uniform is in excellent condition with only a few snags and 1 rear collar stain which are not noticable. The buttons
are the removable type now held on with safety pins. There are 3 magnificent heavy gold cloth bullion hash marks ("Hershey Bars")
sewn on the lower left sleeve indicating that 1 1/2 years were served overseas. Each lower sleeve has a mohair cloth ring
indicating Officer's status. Each upper collar has 2 Officer's "US" pins. The uniform is a custom tailored type. Amphibious
Forces US Army uniforms are fairly rare today. Most inexperienced collectors do not know of their great historical significance, thus over
look them. An exerienced collector knows the great significance of the therms AMTRAC and DD as far as Tank operations go,
and they go to great lengths and cost to obtain one. Here is your chance to own an underpriced example.
