Style Jacket, belonging to a Infantry, Private, serving in the 1st Cavalry Division
This uniform is dated December 6th, 1944. It is a US Army, 1944 Pattern, "Jackets, Field, Wool, O.D.", manufactured to
"Pattern dated 5/10/44, Spec. P.Q.D. No. 437", or as it is more often known as a "Ike" jacket style uniform. Pinned to the upper
left collar lapel is the round shaped metal insignia of Infantry service. The lack of sleeve rank stripe cloth patches indicates
that this soldier is a Private. Sewn at the top of the left sleeve is the shield shaped cloth patch for service in the 1st Cavalry Division.
Sewn near the bottom of the left sleeve are 3 small bar shaped cloth patches which indicates that his solider has served for 1 1/2 years
overseas. Sewn just below them is a single diagonal shape cloth patch which indicates that this soldier has served for 3 years.
There is a smaller shield shaped cloth patch found sewn near the top of his right sleeve indicating former service in the 23rd Infantry Division.
Sewn above his top right pocket flap is a diamond shaped cloth patch which is called the "Ruptured Duck" which indicates
that this soldier is soon to be released from the service. To help complete this uniform the museum has added a Enlisted Man's
style, belt and buckle, a O.D. color, Enlisted Man's, early style shirt, and a khaki color tie.
Pinned above his top left pocket flap are 5 medals/award ribbons, which are
for the following awards:
Awards and Ribbons
Combat Infantryman's Badge
WWII Victory Medal
Good Conduct Medal
Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal
American Campaign Medal
Comments from Curator
The jacket is a size 46R which is very rare indeed. Almost all WWII period uniforms are what we would call a small/medium
size today. To find a WWII uniform in such a large size almost never happens. To find one that is not only in MINT condition,
but is also for a rare Cavalry Division, makes this uniform a true find. Today's reenactors search the planet trying to find uniforms in the larger
sizes, and they pay very high prices if ever they do find one. This is a true gem for the collector and/or reenactor.
Condition - All items are in MINT! condition

*NOTE - We have 1 pair of very large size trousers that would go with this uniform, but they are expensive due
