  • Comments from the Curator:

US Marine Corps. General's uniforms are the rarest and most desirable of all US Military branch uniforms. With the Marines averaging only about 20 Generals in peace time and 40 reported in World War II, a World War II Marine Corps. General's uniform today brings in many tens of thousands of dollars. This post World War II period 1966 dated General meets several of the criteria to make this uniform very expensive, such as:

  • was awarded the ultra high Navy Cross Medal
  • saw comabt in Vietnam
  • was decorated for valor

  • If this General, who's name is currently being researched is identified in the future, then this uniform grouping would appreciate in price tremendously. This uniform is either for one of the most decorated Marines we have ever seen, or most likely this uniform was made for theatrical (movie/stage) productions. The devices found on the Navy cross seem to good to be true, as would be the same for the Distinguished Service Medal had they been present. Most likely these devices were added by a costumer or collector, but we can not tell which either way. The selling price reflects the theatrical production house possibility.
