June, 1966 dated, United States Marine Corps., Major General Naval Aviator's Service Dress Uniform

Uniform jacket and trousers are a matched set

Both jacket and trousers are dated 6/66

Official designation is: Green Service Coat (Uniform)

Uniform grouping belonged to a US Marine Corps., Major General (i.e.: a 2 Star General) who's name is not known at this time (currently being researched)

Includes his 2 silver metal General's stars insignia on each shoulder epaulette

Includes his 2 subdued Eage/Globe/and Anchor insignia pinned on each collar

Both the jacket and trousers have a blank name tag found in each, however it does include the 6/66 date, and what might be the General's serial number of 2725, T-4057

Has it's coat belt and buckle

Includes his original khaki color tie

Includes his original trouser belt and buckle

Has a museum added khaki color shirt

Silver Star Medal with bronze "V" for valor device, and with 1 gold star

Purple Heart Medal with 1 gold star (originally had 2 devices 1 is missing)

Navy Commendation Medal with 1 silver star (originally had 2 devices one is missing)

Presidential Unit Citation

(pre 1961) Combat Action Ribbon with 1 silver star

American Campaign Medal with 1 bronze star

Army of Occupation of Germany with Berlin Airliff device (Very Rare!)

Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 bronze star

Vietnam Service Medal with one silver star (originally had 2 devices 1 is missing)

Comments from the Curator:

US Marine Corps. General's uniforms are the rarest and most desirable of all. With the Marines averaging only about 20 Generals in peace time and 40 reported in World War II, a World War II Marine Corps. General's uniform today brings in many tens of thousands of dollars. This post World War II period 1966 dated General meets several of the criteria to make this uniform very expensive, such as:

was an officer in World War II (a General?)

saw comabt in World War II

was wounded twice(?) in W.W.II

was decorated for valor in W.W.II

Adding to this value is this General's Ultra Rare Berlin Airlift device, which is almost never encountered, plus his service in both Korea all the way up to Vietnam. If researched and identified in the future, then this uniform grouping would appreciate in price tremendously. This uniform is either for one of the most decorated Marines we have ever seen, or most likely this uniform was made for theatrical (movie/stage) productions. The devices found on the silver star seem to good to be true, as are the devices found on the purple heart ribbon. Most likely these devices were added by a costumer or collector, but we can not tell which either way. The selling price reflects the theatrical production house possibility.
