From 1973 to 1974 94 th Engineer
Battalion as a Platoon Leader , then as a Company Commander , and finally as a Battalion Operations Officer.
Served in Thailand from 1973 to 1974.
Field Engineer in Oregon from 1976 to 1980.
Served as Adjutant for the 20 th Engineer Brigade for 1 year , then moved to the 82 nd Airborne
Division where he served as the Operations and Executive Officer for the 307 th Engineer Battalion , and
then worked in combat developments in Kansas from 1983 to 1985.
From 1985 to 1987 Commander of the 307 th Engineer Battalion.
From 1987 to 1990 served with the Joint Staff in the
National Military Command Center and the Counter Narcotics Operations Division in Washington , D . C .
Between 1990 and 1992 was Commander of the 20 th Engineer Brigade ( Combat ) ( Airborne Corps . )
at Fort Brag , N . C .
He led this Brigade during Operations Desert Shield / Storm as an expanded force of
10 Battalions ( = 7,700 soldiers ).
Then from 1992 to 1993 Deputy Assistant Commandant of
the U . S . Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood , and also named Joint Task Force Engineer of the
Joint Task Force in Somalia.
Between 1993 and 1995 Deputy Commanding General of the U . S .
Army Engineer Center and Assistant Commandant of the U . S . Army Engineer School . Another assignment
was as the Assistant Division Commander of the 2 nd Infantry Division ( Mechanized ) , 8 th U . S . Army.
In 1996 served in Bosnia as Deputy Chief of Staff for Engineers ( Forward ) , U . S .
Army Europe.
2000 General Flowers was a Lieutenant General ( i . e . : a 3 Star General ) ,
and named as " Chief of Engineers " .
